SmartphoneGo to the Table of Contents

Using MyTimetable, it is possible to synchronise your current timetable with your smartphone.

Android

Android does not provide any support for adding online calendar subscriptions. Your best option is to link MyTimetable to Google Calendar (see Google Calendar). If you don't have a Google account yet, you can create one here. Follow these steps to connect your timetable to Google Calendar. You can then use your Google Calendar on your Android smartphone when connected to your Google account.

With Google Calendar, there can be several hours between updates of your timetable. Please visit https://rooster.uva.nl/m for an up-to-date timetable.

iPhone / iPad

It is easy to add an online calendar subscription using an iPhone or iPad. In Safari, surf to https://rooster.uva.nl/m, click the menu button and pick Export. The iPhone will now request confirmation. Click 'Subscribe' to subscribe to your personal timetable.

Blackberry

Unfortunately, it is not possible to link MyTimetable to your Blackberry smartphone. Blackberry smartphones support synchronising with Google Calendar, however, subscribed calendars cannot be synchronised. Googles proprietary solution 'Google Sync for BlackBerry' unfortunately is discontinued.

You can use MyTimetable mobile to view your up-to-date timetable. For this, visit https://rooster.uva.nl/m.

Other Smartphones

There are two options for subscribing to online calendars on other smartphones. First, select 'Export' in MyTimetable, next 'iCalendar subscription' and then 'Smartphone'.

If your smartphone does not respond to this option or issues an error message, then enter the online calendar's URL manually. This URL can be found by clicking 'Export' and then 'iCalendar subscription'. The online calendar's URL is shown in the textbox and begins with http://rooster.uva.nl/ical. Consult your smartphone's manual for device-specific instructions.

FAQsGo to the Table of Contents

I cannot display my timetable for the new academic year.

MyTimetable has a personal profile for each academic year. If a selection can be made between multiple academic years, then a drop-down menu will be displayed at the top menu.

Somebody else has subscribed to my online calendar. How can I reverse this?

Each individual online calendar has a unique code. You can reset this code by clicking 'Export' and then 'iCalendar subscription'. Next, click 'Click here to reset your personal links'. NB: Your old online calendar's URL will no longer work. You now need to reconfigure your agenda application and/or smartphone.

All my classes start one or more hours too late or too early.

Your time zone may be incorrectly configured. Click the 'Settings' symbol in the bottom right-hand corner and check the time zone.

I can see two iCalendar options when exporting. Which one should I use?

There are two versions. The 'iCalendar' option exports the timetable on a one-off basis. NB: This timetable is not automatically updated in response to changes. The 'iCalendar subscription' option ensures that timetable changes are automatically synced with your agenda application assuming this feature is supported.

The second option 'iCalendar subscription' makes sure changes in the timetable are applied automatically in your agenda application (when supported by the application).

How often is the iCalendar subscription updated?

This depends on the application you use. Google Calendar updates the timetable about every 6 hours, Outlook updates every hour and for Apple iCal you can configure the update interval yourself. In case you want to force an update by re-adding the subscription to your agenda, you should first reset your personal links.

Can I subscribe to my timetable with Microsoft Outlook 2003?

Unfortunately, Microsoft Outlook 2003 does not support subscribing to calendars. You can, however, import your timetable manually. Please follow these instructions.

The UvA Calendar export option tries to add my timetable to my personal Google Calendar account. What should I do?

Unfortunately, Google sometimes redirects you to the wrong Google Calendar account. Make sure you are logged out on all other Google accounts and try again.

I cannot see my timetable for the new academic year in my online calendar.

MyTimetable has a personal profile and online calendar for each academic year. Select the correct academic year from the drop-down menu at the top of your profile and re-export your timetable.

MyTimetable mobile does not work correctly on my smartphone. What should I do?
